LoFi Summer (ft. Rep)

Smell that? That’s a french press From the cafe down the street open since 6 Homie running with the Beatz as a headset Zoned out as his feet beat like a compress In an instant, hear alarm clocks sounding Traffic starts forming, hearts they start pounding Another day bound to need us to be grounded Hope we all found a way to wear crowns Summer went away, and we all fall like the leaves do Use to see green lights and never wanna change to Busy ness, business, long live the simplest Form of childhood dreams a break from the relentless Wish there were more mornings filled with OJ Not Ford Bronco being chased on a freeway But kids riding broncos playing cowboys and indians When playing cops and robbers wasn’t real but an idiom I miss the innocence. We were innocent. As a kid didn’t know. We were ignorant. Didn’t know we should live in fear and hesitance Didn’t know we should serve dead presidents. Didn’t know we should never satisfied. Didn’t know we should never have self pride. Didn’t know that summer had an end if we let it Grew up and then summer left. We forget it. So, breathe. Get a cuppa. Mediate. Like trees in a breeze close your eyes and sway We should walk more not with big packs Or heads in phone screens that’s causing hunchbacks She took time off to flip off time Cause God ain’t make busy. We just cross that line. Thinking maybe we could do more. In stead of be more. That’s the way life should be. Wake up to sunshine bathing you like royalty. Life won’t stop so I gotta make it go for me. Breath is meant to live not run out of constantly. What happened to summer time? Not the season. I’m just asking what happened to the reason. For living. Are we taking each moment? Does it own us or do we own it?

about

It began with writing a cluster of tracks over three days whilst waiting to hear back about booking studio time for another project. Summer '23 didn't really happen in the UK, and this music was an ode to that. The music was simple, lofi by design and eclectic. The tracks have a feel like they came from an old MPC loaded with vinyl samples. I took one of these beats and sent it to New York based rapper REP to write a couple of verses for. When it came back, I was so blown away by his work, I ended up shelving the album, focusing on this track, and turning it into an EP. I added more production, and when the mix was completed, I wrote a remix of the track to explore a different feel.
The track, 'LoFi Summer', feels to me like 90's hip-hop, and that's where I hoped it would land, in terms of sound. I am so grateful to Rep for his contributions and artistry.
'Lofi Summer' is backed by the aforementioned remix, and two additional tracks from the original sessions.
